Catholic Noboricho Church – World Peace Memorial Cathedral

The Catholic Noboricho Church – World Peace Memorial Cathedral is a place that would not have been built without the dedication of foreign priests. Their efforts helped shape the post-war reconstruction of Hiroshima, and this cathedral stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and hope.

Learning about Fr. Hugo Lassalle, I feel a deep connection to his journey, as if tracing the path of my own life. If I had the chance to meet him today, I feel we would have a great conversation.

This cathedral is a solemn and serene place for prayer. Even though it is located in the heart of the city, it offers a peaceful atmosphere for reflection. In the summer, mosquitoes might sneak in, but that’s part of the experience!

Many Catholic travelers from around the world visit the cathedral, eager to join Mass. Despite their different nationalities, they all share a deep faith and respectful devotion.

Currently, the weekday morning Mass at 7 AM is held in the small chapel to the left upon entering the cathedral. The Mass is conducted in Japanese, but many attendees participate even without understanding the language. If you plan to attend, it’s always best to check the official schedule beforehand, as times may change. You’ll be warmly welcomed!
